Provo Center for the Arts
Contributions for the Provo Center for the Arts can be made to the Provo Foundation and are tax-deductable. The Center will be an energizing resource for promoting the highest-quality arts programs in the
area. Public and private facilities currently used by community artists in Provo and Utah County are becoming incresingly unavailable.
Thus numerous gifted musicians, actors, dancers, singers, and other performers residing in this geographic area need a reliable place to exhibit and share their talents. Loyal patrons of the symphonies, operas, choral groups and dance troupes would greatly benefit from this venue. Additionally, the Center for the Arts in Provo can draw Broadway touring companies and other national performing groups that currently cannot be accomodated closer than Salt lLake City.
The Provo Center for the Arts will attract diverse audiences and become a nucleus for the visual theatre, and performing arts in the heart of Utah County, where all ages can enjoy, discuss and celebrate the
arts. For many, it will be a long-held dream come true:
a permanent home for the arts in Provo. It will be right in the heart of downtown - on West Center Street. The Provo City Mayor and Municipal Council have made the commitment towards a cultural center by designating the former city library building to be the Provo Center for the Arts. Monetary investments by individuals and businesses are necessary to realize this community goal. The former library buiding is ideally located but requires major redesign and remodeling. Renovation costs with a small endowment are estimated to be less than half the cost of an all new building.
The focal point will be the 670-seat concert hall, large enough for major stage productions yet flexible enough for intimate recitals.
In addition, both the first and second floors will house art galleries, classrooms, studios, and rehersal halls. Portions of the building will contain administrative and technical support services.
